Emily's Temple Day

My Mom and I had the opportunity to go through the temple with my best friend Emily. I got to spend the day with Mom shopping and playing around and we also got to have lunch with Amy...it was a great day and such a neat day for Emily. I love the Salt Lake Temple, I really should get there more. It's funny that it and so many other temples are so close and yet are so dang hard to find time to go in, silly really. I defintely need to work on that! I did find time to squeeze in a pedicure, and now I am totally ready for summer and flip flops.

Cousins

One of my favorite things as a child was when my Aunt Linda and my cousins came and stayed. The friendships that were built in my youth are still carried today and have strong bonds. We have many memories of building forts in the big trees behind our grandparent's house, sneaking out in the hills on the 4-wheeler, throwing each other off the 4 wheelers and the list is endless. I don't have a picture with all my cousins but here is a picture of a few people that I love and care about dearly, which leads me into Kennedy's cousins coming to Woodruff. Kennedy does not have any cousins on the Kennedy side (but there are 2 on the way..yea) and she doesn't see her other cousins as often as we would like, but none the less when they come up a great time is had by all!

Back in Control

I have been out of commission for a while because Kennedy fell down the stairs with my computer and she was o.k. but it ruined the hard drive on the computer so...here I am with trying to catch up on the events for the past 2 months. It doesn't seem like there has been to many exciting things but I am documenting the every day things so we remember them, so here it goes. My friend, Marcy and I, went to Logan to a Meet and Greet at the Golden Corral to meet some contestants fromt the Biggest Loser-(crazy place to have a Meet and Greet for people batteling their weight) but nobody asked my opinion. We were able to meet and talk individually to a few people and also their trainer, Brett, (hotter than a firecracker) but mostly got inspired and motivated to keep on the journey I started a year ago with my own weight loss battle; and it is a battle. Jeramy

We have had a fun week this week; Kennedy has been writing letters and sending treats to a soldier in Afghanistan and he is home on leave until the 30. Jeramy called and asked if he could come to our house and meet and surprise Kennedy on Tuesday night and personally thank her. It was such a neat experience for both of us. There was a knock on the door and I answered and there was Jeramy in his military uniform-Kenndy and Savhanna just looked up at him but Kennedy knew who he was from his pictures. We invited him and his mother in and got to talk and learn about the war and the brave men and women who are serving. Wednesday we were able to hold an assembly for the elementary where the kids got to see a slide show and ask questions about life as a medic in Afghanistan. It was touching and also so awesome to see how much the kids were interested and respectful. Today (Saturday) there was an open house held in Evanston where again we got to go be a part of something so special and touching-Kennedy's cards and the other kids from her classes cards were displayed on a table for everyone to see. Kennedy was treated like royalty from Jeramy and his family. We have just started a new friendship with an amazing person and family and have learned so much. I am so grateful for the people serving in our military, what unbelievable sacrifice them and their families make for our freedoms.

Army Medic Jeramy Bills visited South Rich Elementary on Wednesday to meet some of the students who communicated with him while he was deployed in Afghanistan. Second grader Kennedy Eastman began writing to Bills and soon had her whole class sending him letters.

Bills showed the students slides of his unit’s base camp as well as souvenirs of his deployment. The slides demonstrated the primitive conditions that his unit endured, including no running water or indoor plumbing.

He said he likes the army and re-enlisted while serving in Afghanistan. He expects to go to Honduras at the end of May. He also expressed his appreciation for the letters and support he received from the students.

Jeramy is the son of Craig and Gayla Bills of Evanston and grandson of Fred and Raeoma Tingey of Woodruff.

Lauren's 22nd Birthday Party

My sweet littlest sister had her 22nd birthday party. I love when all the family gets together and laughs and jokes and laughs so more. I did not get a picture of the whole gang but we were all there. I love Lauren and am so proud of her, she is a terrific Aunt and Sister and I am so lucky to have her as my sister and example. Lauren graduates from USU next winter after she finishes her student teaching. She has a strong testimony and is a great example. As I get older, I really appreciate the times we get to spend together. Our family has expanded by 3 people in the past 2 years and it's amazing how we all fit together and get along, I now cannot imagine our lives withouth them. We are so lucky to have Bret, Hilary and Nate added and more hopefully on the way. Thanks Dad and Mom for making a home that we all love to come home too and so far are all close enough to do it often. Happy Birthday Lauren, I love you very much and thanks for wanting a birthday party at home.

Church History Museum

We went and stayed for a couple of days in Salt Lake this week, Darren had to get his truck worked on so we met him there. We love staying at the hotels at the airport because it is less crowded and we have never been disappointed with our rooms. The first night we stayed at the Hilton-Kennedy and I went and ate supper in the restaraunt and it was about one of the best meals ever, afterwards of course we swam and swam and swam and when Darren arrived we swam some more. The next day we went to breakfast, shopping at the gateway (Justice and Sur La Table) are the greatest stores on earth and then went to the Children's Discovery Center. I have to say, Kennedy is to old for the Discovery Center so that was a bust. We then decided to do a little church history museum tour and it was incredible. We had so much fun there-something there for everyone. Darren and I loved the old letters written from the prophets and other church authorities and it was incredible to see the items that crossed the plains and learn the history behind them. The death masks of the Prophet Joseph Smith and Hryum were in the museum, so that is what Darren and Kennedy are standing in front of. Also Kennedy got to lay in a bunk bed that was a replica of one that was on a ship from England. Kennedy was able to draw and color a picture downstaris that is displayed on their tv and then upstairs the children got to try tons of different things from dancing to a toritlla toss. We had a wonderful time. Later that night we headed back out to the Hyatt and ate pizza, swam and watched movies. Thanks Darren for the little get away!

Roller Skating and Swimming

We decided to take Kennedy Roller Skating and we found the funnest place in Layton. We went in the middle of the day on a MOnday and we were the only ones there. We had the whole skating floor to oursleves, the bowling alley, all the games and bounces and the rock wall. We had a blast and to top it off we stayed down and went swimming.

Darren has suffered from terrible leg pain for years and since August it has been unbearable. We have been to several Dr.'s,had test after test done and never found an answer. The first time it happened was 11 years ago when we were moving our friend from Garden City to Logan; we thought he had just stepped on his ankle wrong. The pain has been inconsistent and tolerable up until this August when it has been steady and excruciating. My sister, Jill, is in the advertising business and one her clients is a cardiologist that specializes in pain in the lower extremities (Utah Cardiovascular Center, Dr. Aguala). It truly is an answer to our prayers. Darren has a disease in the lower half of his legs where his "shut-off" valves don't work so blood doesn't pump back up to his heart; blood pools in the bottom part of his legs and his veins are double the size of what they should be. It is treatable and hopefully he will get surgery on his first leg next month. Dr. Aguala says it is a treatable disease and the procedure is easy. We are so thankful to have found him and are hoping for a leg pain free future.

Valentines

Darren and I don't really get to excited about Valentines but Kennedy gets way stoked for every holiday. I didn't get a picture of what we got her but she made us the cutest card in the world, she has such a big heart. There was also a chocolate festival in Garden City that I thought would be way to attend, but both Kennedy and I got sick so we couldn't go. Kennedy brought the chocolate festival to us; she drew pictures and made signs and spread out all her Valentines candy so we would feel like we were there. It was so much fun...bless her heart for showing us how the small and simple things mean the most. I have been very upset with Rufus lately because when he gets mad at me he will find a place and go to the bathroom in the house, I have been furious (still am) but I went into Kennedy's room to check on her and she had rufus snuggled up on the bed with her tucked under her arm. I guess we will be keeping him.

Eastman Family Pictures

We decided to have family pictures taken when Mark and Vicki were here in December, it was a fabulous idea and we were excited about getting them. I got so sick the week before we were supposed to take the pictures and it just went from bad to worse. I went to the Dr. and was diagnosed with pneumonia so I got a big shot in my bumb a few prescriptions and came home to sleep it off. I wasn't getting any better but knew for sure I couldn't miss the pictures-so I threw on a hat and off we went. I was not crazy about the pictures but when we got them it made we glad we did it. They look better in persona and I am so glad that we got them. I also did not have them framed and Darren's sweet parents surprised us and framed them and picked them up for us. Lola did a great job picking out frames and they look beautiful in our home.

Kennedy's 2nd grade class has been writing to a Soldier in Afghanistan and they received their first letter from him this week. Jeramy is awesome and took the time to answer each child's question in their letter. I wish I could fit the entire thing on here and maybe will try to do that later.

Normal Life Events

We have had a pretty busy week running around, here are a few of the highlights. Darren has been in North Dakota for 2 weeks and it has been a long 2 weeks without him. He went up there to do a field job last Monday and was finished it by Friday but then they had him turn around Saturday for another one...we miss him but so appreciate what he does for our family. Darren takes great care of us and sacrifices being able to be home every night. Darren and I choose to live here and we so that Kennedy to go to school here and also be raised on the ranch, it is definitely not without sacrifice; but we love the lifestyle of our little town and the opportunity's we can give her here. All that being said, being gone 2 weeks seems like a long time! Enough of that. Kennedy had her first basketball this week and it was so fun to watch, the kids have just been learning the fundamentals so they haven't actually played a game. They had a great time and everyone left happy, at this age I think that's the most important. Kennedy also had started talking on the phone a little more, I snapped a picture of her getting ready for bed and talking on the phone T. Darren doesn't want to miss anything going on so Kennedy Skype's him; she made a little puppet show and had to show him. The weather here this past week has been so cold. I help my brother feed in the mornings and the cows had so much frost on them that I felt bad for them...(usually not that sentimental about them). It has been a great week with 5 trips to Evanston and a couple to Logan so we are keep the road warm with our travels. I am not enjoying my math class but just keep telling myself it is a means to an end!

Friendship

My brother Matt and I were best friends growing up, we did everything together. Dad had us out chasing cows and doing everything with him so we learned to have fun with each other. Somewhere along the way, however, our friendship became distant, we lived in the same house but weren't very connected in each other's lives. I am so so glad that it didn't last forever and so happy to say that we have a great friendship that continues to grow. I am so glad for the strong influence that Matt has in our daughter's life and for the active role that he plays in it. These are a few pictures of Matt and I growing up. I have been helping him feed in the mornings and have looked forwar to our morning discussions. Matt doesn't love his picture taken but I was able to snap a few. Thanks Matt for the great friend that you are to Darren and I, and for the outstanding example you are to Kennedy.

A Growing Girl

I can't believe how fast time goes by and the moments seem to slip away right before my eyes. Kennedy started girl's activity when she turned 8 and since then it seems she is maturing and learning so fast. This week she made a "job jar" for their activity and she is so excited to do the chores in it. She drew a paper out of the jar and it said she had to clean the toilet, she was so excited; I am learning that responsibility and self-esteem work together. Kennedy also ironed pillowcases for 1/2 an hour (thank you job jar) and had to polish the furniture. I am so proud of her for the things she is learning and her willingness to learn. Kennedy is also turning into such a girl; it's not something I have a lot of experience in but we are learning that together as well. We put curlers in at least 2 days a week and other updos the rest, she also plans out her clothes for every day of school and wanted to go get mannequins to dress so she could just see how the clothes looked together. As much as she likes to get dressed up, she also likes to ride her horse and play in the mud, so I guess everything will balance out. Here are a few pictures of the activities for this week. Kennedy and her best friend Savannha also love to play dress up and make-up dances and perform shows, what great fun! I am so lucky that Kennedy has a friend that lives right next door and that she gets along so well with.

Basketball and More wedding stuff

Kennedy started little league basketball on Saturday, they are split up by grades for a few years to learn skill and then they will start playing games. I have to admit I was not excited that Kennedy wanted to basketball-I'm all about the volleyball; I have to say I was plesently surprised. Crystalyn Hull is their coach and she does a great job. It was fun to see her play and we can't wait for next Saturday. Saturday night we headed down to Kaysville for Nate and Katrina's wedding reception. It was at the Oakridge Country Club and we had a great time. The food was fabulous the company was even better.

Letters to Jeramy

We are so comfortable and safe in our little town of Woodruff that sometimes I think we forget that there are brave men and women fighting for our freedoms. I think it's a shame that The Pledge of Allegiance isn't said every day in schools and kids don't know the National Anthem; I want my daughter to realize the sacrifice that is being made for her. Fred and Raoma Tingey have a grandson, Jeramy Bills, who is serving as a medic on the front lines in Afghanistan. Jeramy's address was in our church bulletin so we decided to make him some cookies and write him a letter to let him know we appreciate him. We started writing to him in September and have continued to send him treats and letters. Jeramy has written back to Kennedy and it has been so neat to see her gain an interest and a little knowledge of what it takes for our freedoms. I have met Jeramy's moms on facebook and learned about him and some of the struggles they are facing over there, I also have gained a greater appreciation for the military and their families; it is such a sacrifice and one that is easy to forget unless we are directly affected. We learned that Jeramy does not get a lot of mail and has a hard time being away; we talked to Kennedy's teacher and thought it would be a neat thing for the 2nd grade class to write letters. I love the way kids are so excited and willing to do things. They each wrote a letter to Jeramy and hopefully learned a little in the process. This is a picture of Kennedy's 2nd grade class and their effort in making one soldier know he is appreciated and not forgotten.

Today was such a fun day...Katrina and Nathan were married in the Salt Lake Temple, it was a beautiful day for a wedding. They were many friends and family there to celebrate. I LOVE my cousins, they are so much fun and it we don't get to see each other very often. They drive long distances to be supportive of our family. Amy and Kennedy were twinners today, very good taste in coats. The wedding dinner was at Rodizio Grill where there was lots of meat to eat for all. Katrina looked happier today than I have ever seen her. I have an awesome family and awesome extended family and we are so lucky to be able to keep adding people to it.

New Beginings

The starting of a new year is a great opportunity to set some new goals. One of my goals for this year is to blog each week so that at the end of the year I have some history into the life of our little family. My sister-in-law, Brynn, has been very faithful of this and has had the years made into books. I think it is the neatest things, so I am determined to update on Sunday nights. I have said it out loud, so that should make it easier to do. I am going to post a few pictures that are from the past couple of months, because some pretty monumental things have happened and want to remember them always. Halloween Party's

This year we celebrated Fall and Halloween with a few parties and a lot of pumpkins! We started off with the Fall Carnival at the school where Kennedy wanted to dress up as a scary ugly witch. Emily painted her face and she really looked horrible; she won the scariest costume in her age division and brought home a little trophy. Darren and Kennedy carved pumpkins this year and they did a fabulous job, it was tons of fun. I have always wanted to go to Gardner Village and a pumpkin patch so this year Mom, Kennedy and I set out on an adventure. Gardner Village is still something I haven't been to-the day we chose was way to busy so we skipped it; but we went to an awesome pumpkin patch and corn maze. We picked out 10 pumpkins in all shapes, sizes and even colors. It was a blast. Halloween day we headed to Jill's house where we had a Halloween Party/Football Party. Dad and Darren couldn't come because they had to work, we missed them but had a great time. All the girls dressed up in costumes and went trick or treating with Kennedy and her friend Jordan Nelson. Jill's neighbors go all out in Hooper, our first stop we all had grilled hamburgers and hot chocolate! We went to tons and tons of houses for candy and then hit another house that was serving smores and hot chocolate. It was definitely a treat. Later we dipped caramel apples and ate tons of good food. It was such a great time and hope it becomes tradition! Thanks Brett and Jill.

Secret Friend

Kennedy is now in girl's activities for church and they chose to secret friends. Matt and Hilary gave Kennedy a Halloween cookbook with all kinds of yummy cutesy little treats; for Kennedy's 1st secret gift for her friend she made spider cupcakes for her...(Brooke Handley). I don't know that they were very good to eat but they sure we cute.

Growing up we didn't ever take family vacations unless we were going to a rodeo or a roping. This year my parents (I think more Mom than Dad) decided we needed a little trip without the horses. We rented a cabin in Heber City and headed up to stay conference weekend. All of us were able to be there except Darren, and he couldn't get off work with such short notice. My family is not very good at planning it's all kind of spur of the moment stuff. We missed Darren and hopefully he will be able to come with us next year-we decided it should be a yearly event...we'll see how that pans out but hopefully. We went 4 wheeling, hot tubing, played games, ate and ate and ate, watched conference, did quite a bit of Indian leg wrestling,(I was the champ) and just hung out and laughed. Kennedy's Aunt's decided it was time for her to go Snipe hunting, so we waited until it got dark and off they went. I, of course, had to video and take pictures. It was a blast.

Anniversary

Darren and I got married 11 years ago in Las Vegas. We dated for about 4 years and he finally decided to propose. It was such a romantic morning. On October 5, 1999 Darren took me to the Uintas to Butterfly lake for a picnic; he said he had to get something out of the car, when he came back he got on bended knee and asked me to be his wife. We didn't have any money so he had found a twig and molded it into the shape of a ring and put it on my finger. I didn't care if I had a ring, I just wanted to be married to the man of my dreams, and he was it. I, of course, said yes and we headed back to Evanston to Wal-Mart and bought a ring. It was the most beautiful ring ever. We then called my parents and told them the news and headed to my grandma's house at Mt. Fuel to share the good news. A week later Darren and I along with my best friend, Steph, flew to Vegas to get married. Chad, Billy and Brandon Pugmire were down there so they also came to our wedding along with Tauna Eastman and her friend Erin. The church that we chose to get married in was Viva Las Vegas and it was a pretty little church. I was walked down the aisle in my wedding dress, with Chad escorting me in his black Metallica t-shirt which he had turned around so it was a little more dressy. We made our vows and then our limo driver took us all over Vegas that night. My favorite part was when she drove us to the Belligio to look at the fountains; we all piled out of the limo and watched the waterfalls dance and sway to the music. I felt like a princess, climbing out of the limo with my wedding dress on. There was romance in the air. As the night came to an end, we had the radio blasting with the windows down and "Goodbye to Romance" by Ozzy came on the radio; we all laughed at the timing of the song. I never wanted the romance to end. We were extremely blessed 3 years later when our little girl was born, she truly was our miracle and she was the one that changed our entire life, for the better. Darren and I had many experiences that were fun but having Kennedy was the purest joy either one of us had ever known. Kennedy changed the way we looked at life and knew there was some definent changes that we needed to make to give her a good life and one that she deserved. Kennedy was born when things for us were tough, but we moved back to Utah near family and from there things seem to fall into place. Kennedy was 8 months old when we were able to be sealed to her and to each other for time and eternity, it was such an incredible day. Our family surrounded us this time and the day was perfect. We are not blessed with any more children but the one that we have is our greatest treasure. Now 11 years later we are still going strong. I love being married to my husband and I guess he still loves me. He surprised me with a ring "upgrade" this year. I always told him if we ever got enough to get a new ring I wanted a platinum band with a square diamond. He got me exactly what I wanted. Thanks Darren, I love it and I love you.

Darren's Birthday present to Kennedy

Darren is very talented musically, although I don't know how many people know this. From the moment we found out we were having a baby he started putting music up to my belly-lots of AC/DC,Ozzy, and Offspring just to give her an early start on proper music (lol). Every year he has wanted to give her a guitar but decided she wasn't quite old enough-but this year he finally got her one. We looked and looked and finally he found the perfect one for her: a little black Ibanez. It was so fun to see the look on his face when he gave it to her, what a special gift. I wish Darren was home more to be able to teach her, but they sure have a great time jamming it up when he is home. If you live close and you hear noise booming out of our house it's just my husband and daughter jamming out.

Kennedy's 8th Birthday

Kennedy turned 8 this year. I can't believe how fast time goes by. We only do family birthday parties every year, but she had the chose to have a friend birthday party or something of her choose. Kennedy wanted to take a few friends to Chuck E Cheese in Layton. We took Emily Weston (I need a friend to be there) Hayden Weston, Savvanha Mitchell, Alyssa Cook and Kennedy. Hilary, Bret and Jill also came and we had a great time.

Dirt and the neighborhood Kids

We are putting in a little more lawn in the front of the house so we had some dirt delivered. I don't know what it is about kids and dirt, but they LOVE playing in it. All the kids showed up to help Darren rake the dirt and they did such a great job, he defintely was glad for their help. The kdis helping are Riley Carillo, Hayden Weston, Kennedy, Cameron Hull and Addison Carillo.

Matt's Wedding

I am going to skip forward to September, although I am sure there were things we did that were great. Matt married a wonderful girl in the Logan Temple on September 3, 2010. Hilary is a wonderful addition to our family and is also super great at keeping Matt calm. Since I haven't blogged for a really long time, I just want to mention how awesome Bret is. We are so lucky to be expanding our family with such wonderful people.

Rich County Fair and Rodeo has always brought so much fun and many memories to this small little town of ours and this year was no different. We started out by looking at all the exhibits and ribbons in the fair building; they offered a coloring contest for the kids while the parents looked around and would announce the winner at the rodeo. Kennedy won the coloring contest and picked up some cash and a coloring book (I never saw the picture and we didn't get it back). Pat and Bart ie..Dirthead Services decided to put a "float" in the parade this year and asked the cousins to ride on it and throw candy. It was so much fun to see, I know my grandparents would have been so proud. We are lucky they are living close. We also had a chance to catch up with Mark and Joan, Jolie and the twins-Madi and Cooper. Madi was not at all interested in the parade or the candy but in eating dirt off the ground. Cooper is just like his Dad and when he saw Pat driving the semi he got so excited. We had such a fun day. I took Kennedy to the dance that night and she tore it up on the dance floor until after midnight. Uncle Roger is still carrying the flag after all these years, hopefully more to come.

Working with Darren

I was able to go to work with Darren for a couple of days and we had the greatest time, it was like a vacation for me. We went to Dickinson North Dakota and some of the country I got to see really was pretty...there were fields and fields of sunflowers and Darren let me stop and take pictures and just look around. It was amazing. I also had to experience a truck stop shower, I am defintely not cut out for that, I was kind of scweemish! Darren was so good to me and made sure I was comfortable and having fun the entire trip. We stopped at Devli's Tower on the way back and did a few touriste things. It was fun to see what Darren does for work and be able to relate to some of the place he talks about now. Thanks honey I had a great time.

Darren had the 4th of July off for the first time in a few years so we were excited to be able to celebrate together. Kennedy wanted to ride her horse, Sid, in the parade so Dad brought the horses and they rode together. Kennedy was grinning from ear to ear and she looked like she was having a great time on her horse riding with her "pa". Kennedy and Dad won 1st place in the parade and won a check for $30.00

Still California Trip

We were then ready to hit Disneyland, but I had to make a stop along the way. I love love love Food Network and so everywhere we go I look up a place to eat that has been on there. I had researched a place that was on Diners, Drive-In's and Dives and had chosen Studio Drive-In. We were starving and couldn't wait to get there. Luckily we had Darren's lat top so we had access to GPS, it was still sooooo hard to find, and after about 1 1/2 hours we finally made it there. I was so excited. We sat down and started looking at the menu and it was normal normal food. I decided that as long as we were by the coast I would have fish and chips (I normally don't eat fish) but decided it was the right time to try. WRONG. I wish I would have taken a picture of the fish they brought me, but I barely made it out alive and without puking. It was an entire fish that had been rolled in batter and thrown in the deep fryer...nastiest grossest thing I have ever seen. I must admit thought that the milkshake that Darren and Kennedy split was amazing. We still had to stop at McDonald's to get a burger. I was then told that for the rest of the trip I was not allowed to choose where we got to eat. This was not the first incident that something like this had happened. Onward and upward and ready for Disneyland. It was such a fun place to be and I wish we could have spent much more time there, although Darren was a good sport, I think he was ready to go after about an hour. I think it was all a little girly for him, but I don't know what he expected, he was with 2 girls. We got to go down Princess Avenue and got the autographs and pictures with 3 princess, got our faces painted and looked at little fairy costumes for a while-the fun just never ended. We then got to tour Mickey and Minnie's houses and so many other things. The rides at Disneyland are not very scary, but Kennedy was still a chicken, and yes, she was still forced to ride. Mean parents I know, but I guess somewhere you got to get your kicks while you can and it was kind of funny to listen to her howl and then get off and say it wasn't that bad. I know deep down she enjoyed it. I think we took Kennedy at the perfect age, things were still mysterious and magical. I am going to post more pictures of Disneyland just because I loved it so much.

California Trip

I have always wanted to go to Disneyland and have never had the chance to go. Darren had some meetings in San Diego the end of April and the first part of May so I finagled it so we could take a family trip and experience a few fun things in California. The first part of our trip was in San Diego where we got to stay at the Hard Rock Hotel. We definitely were out of our comfort zone (meaning Hotel 6), we pulled up to the hotel, our doors were opened and the gentlemen informed us it was valet parking only; they would take our luggage up to our room and park our car. We weren't quite ready so we needed to take a trip around the block to make sure we would get everything we needed. We were staying in this hotel for 3 days, so being so "cheap" I had packed food that we could eat up in our room. I wasn't prepared for a lot of people to see just how conservative we really were. I stuffed all the food in suitcases, camera bags and anything else that we could smuggle it in. We were now ready to park...let me mention that Darren is a freak about being prepared so in our trunk not only did we have our food (food, water, shelter) we also had 2 gallons of diesel, a safety back equipped with everything from water purifying kits, ponchos, battery cables, waterproof matches to a hatchet just in case we needed to every start a fire and had to chop wood...the safety kit in our trunks is a little treat from my dad. Every year on Christmas Eve Dad goes shopping and buys things to add to our car kits, love it but not the point of my story...we were finally ready to be parked and escorted to our rooms. I had not been informed that the bottom of the Hard Rock was a happening place for the nightlife, fully equiped with security guards in tuxedos and red velvet ropes that had to be crossed to get into the lobby. Kennedy really got to see some short low cut dresses and also some other very interesting attire. I wonder if I would have noticed what people were wearing as much if my 7 year old's eyes weren't popping out of her head. We made it up to the room and it was awesome. The Padres stadium was directly across the street and there were many quaint little shops to walk through during the day while Darren attended his meetings. We became quite accustomed to being taken to the front of the line with securitey...Kennedy was a dead give away, I guess, that we weren't there to party and were no real threat. There was a rooftop pool where we spent much time-we had our own private cabana equipped with a big screen t.v., personal fridge, and 2 couches. I truly wondered it we had gone to heaven. California Trip Continued

We were able to see many other tourists attractions in San Diego. We went to the docks and toured the USS Midway. I cannot get over the size of that ship, it was incredible. My good friend Spud told me they are fun to look at and around but they suck to live in. I am greateful for those willing to sacrifice, it was a humbling place to be. We were touring on a Sunday so wanted to keep what we did to a minimal, but we stumbled on to the church's Mormon Battalion Center. We went on a tour that actually brought everything to life. We were able to complete a journey with the men, women and some children that marched in the Mormon Battalion. At the end of the tour you could type in a name of an ancestor and read their history of the time they spent with the battalion. We also got to pan for gold and see how brick were made. We also found the San Diego temple and were able to look around it. It seems like even in the middle of chaos there is still such a peace on the temple grounds. It is a beautiful temple.

Sea World

The next part of our trip was going to Sea World. We picked the best day in the world to go there because no one else was there. It was awesome. No waiting in any lines and got to sit up close and see whatever we wanted. It was a wonderful day and we had tons of fun. Kennedy loved everything except the ride Journey to Atlantis and that's just because she's a chicken. Darren and I love roller coasters and scary rides and so therefore, she had to go on it...kicking and screaming the entire time, but she made it and 2 out 3 isn't bad for having fun!

We have spent the entire day down at dad's arena and have had such a great time. I can't believe I am watching my daughter practice the barrels and roll in the dirt and open chute gates, I grew up doing the same thing. Where does the time go? We have the big team branding event down there tomorrow-we came home so cold today but I am sure we'll be there again "horsin around"...I must say chutes have come a long way from when I was a kid. I was the gate puller and the alley help, they don't even have a gate puller anymore-it's all by remote control, Kennedy pushes a button sitting on a barrel and the gate opens then closes. I think she needs to experience runnin the chutes the old fashioned way!

Kennedy started snowboarding lessons this Saturday and it was so much fun. We decided to rent her equipment for the season this year because she will grow out of it by next year. She can't seem to stop talking about it and has been wearing her helmet, goggles, and board boots around non-stop just waiting for next Saturday. She also is practicing moving around and getting up and down and other things that I don't know what are! We will be going every Saturday until the end of March. I hope she keeps on loving it!

Kennedy took cupcakes to school for a treat and we had a birthday party at Grandma's. We decided to face plant her in the cake instead of eating it. It was such a fun day. Kate is in Boston playing and Matt was watching the U game downstairs and couldn't be bothered for pictures. We missed you Kate! It seems to strange to me that 7 years have already passed. We lived in Phoenix when Kennedy was born, it was such a scary and exiting time. We almost lost her, so glad she is healthy. I love being a Mom!

The other day, someone at a store in our town read that a Methamphetamine lab had been found in an old farmhouse in the adjoining county and he asked me a rhetorical question.

"Why didn't we have a drug problem when you and I were growing up?"

I replied I had a drug problem when I was young: I was drug to church on Sunday morning. I was drug to church for weddings and funerals. I was drug to family reunions and community socials no matter the weather.

I was drug by my ears when I was disrespectful to adults I was also drug to the woodshed when I disobeyed my parents, told a lie, brought home a bad report card, did not speak with respect, spoke ill of the teacher or the preacher, or if I didn't put forth my best effort in everything that was
asked of me.

I was drug to the kitchen sink to have my mouth washed out with soap if I uttered a profanity.

I was drug out to pull weeds in mom's garden and flowerbeds and cockleburs out of dad's fields.

I was drug to the homes of family, friends and neighbors to help out some poor soul who had no one to mow the yard, repair the clothesline, or chop some firewood; and, if my mother had ever known that I took a single dime as a tip for this kindness, she would have drug me back to the woodshed.

Those drugs are still in my veins and they affect my behavior in everything I do, say, or think. They are stronger than cocaine, crack, or heroin; and, if today's children had this kind of drug problem, America would be a better place.

We had such an amazing week, our Condo was on the 3rd floor and sat on the beach in San Jose Del Cabo. We could literally sit on our Veranda and watch the Whales jump and the Stingrays dance..it was incredible. We rented a car for the week so we drove between San Jose Del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas and everything in between. We went Whale watching on this huge sailboat and at in some pretty fun places. The first night we were there a huge turtle was hanging out on our beach. It was a private beach so we happen to be the only ones on it that night. We also saw a couple get married down in the sand...very romantic. The Church that is shown was built in the 1700's and was beautiful! We missed Kennedy and were glad to get home, even if it was to the cold.

I received some Omish Friendship Bread and have been so exited to make it. It is sooo good, but I am not a very good baker, but thought I could do this. I love to cook hate to bake! This is how my morning started today, it is a huge RAT crawling around on my driveway and under my car. Kennedy and I ran back in the house screaming and Kennedy was screaming call 911-the damn rat was not in the least bit afraid of us. We have to get to school and work so we had to get back out there, we started walking towards the car and it started walking towards us! We had to wait until we couldn't see it and make a run for the car. I am a nervous wreck about this ugly thing. I need a hunter.

Kennedy got a spa kit for Christmas so we finally got around to having a little party today. She invited her friend Jordan out and they made strawberry perfume and lip gloss, and vanilla sugar foot scrub. We then had a little tea party with mini sandwiches and Cheetos with bug juice to drink. I pretended I worked at the spa and did cucumber masks and eye treatments with hand and foot treatments and then they took turns painting each other's toe nails. It was fun to hear all the laughing!

I have started going in and helping my Aunt Darlene with my cousins, Brenda and Lane. I just want everyone to know what amazing people they are. They have been in wheelchairs for about 33 years with a degenerative condition known as Spinal Cerebellar Atrophy. I am so inspired and want to be a better person because of how they live. They are literally trapped in their body and I have NEVER heard them complain or get upset. I get mad at some of the dumbest things. I am learning as I get older how precious life is and how short it is. They are such a wonderful example to me and my daughter and I feel very lucky to have such a great friendship with them. We were heading to Ogden the other day to go shopping and I was going to take a ton of pictures and this is the only one I got (sorry Brenda) but Lane was ready to go and he kept us hoppin all day. On that note I have to vent...we were trying to find a parking space in the mall on Friday and there was not ONE handicapped parking space available. We drove around and around waiting for someone to come out, no one did so we found a handicapped space for the building next door and started to get out ( a long way from where we needed to be) A big yellow truck pulled in next to us in another handicapped space-all 3 of the people in the truck got out and walked into the mall..it makes me crazy. My 73 year old aunt who has to get 2 people out of the van and into wheel chairs couldn't find a parking space and people who don't really need them are parking there. I didn't get to upset, but was a little disgusted. We got back to the car a while later and were just getting Brenda and Lane in the van to eat lunch. The yellow truck was gone but another car pulled right into the handi space...a little girl, a mother and another lady got out, looked at us feeding Brenda and Lane and said "Oh, we parked in a handicapped spot" and kept on a walkin. I WAS SO DISGUSTED. They should be ahsamed of themselves. I learned a lot from that and decided we all need to be a little more considerate of others!

I don't have any pictures but I have quite a story. I had been playing on my computer two days ago and left to fix supper, when I came back down I couldn't get into my email or my facebook page. I kept thinking it was just a glitch and it would let me in if I kept trying...no, it didn't work. I called my sister, Katrina, (computer genius) and told her what had happened. Long story short, someone had hacked into my computer and locked me out of my own stuff. I was so upset and felt totally invaded. The next morning I checked Darren's email and there was an email from me saying that I was traveling and was stranded and needed money. I went into the bank and talked to them about what had happened. They didn't get any financial stuff but just stuff that was important to me and no one else...pictures, addresses and letters. I know many of you received the email from me. I had many calls making sure I was o.k. and not stranded but I am so mad. I had to change everything. Be careful, it can happen. I didn't think it would or could to me. Anyway, I hope everyone is having a good day and this doesn't happen to them!

It was little girl's drill team this week at Rich High School and they got to perform during half time at a football game. We have a Kennedy Reunion every year usually around Thanksgiving, this year we had it earlier because my Uncle Max and Aunt Rosana have been called to be Temple Presidents and they are leaving in about 3 weeks. We had it down at the ranch this year and it was so much fun. There was a basketball hoop, volleyball net, horses, canoeing, paddle boats, horseshoes and a pinata for the kids. We grilled hamburgers and everyone brought something good to eat. My camera is broken so I had to get these pictures from Kat...not many but a few to show what a great day it was. There were so many people. It was a great time for all. The kids played and played and caught lots of frogs. It was great to visit. My Grandpa and Grandma Kennedy would have been proud...We miss them and wish they were still around!

Many people know that Darren's brother Scott has been fighting cancer and kidney failure, I wanted to give an update. I talked to Scott on Saturday and his cancer is at 2 1/2 percent, it was at 98. It is wonderful news, things are looking so good. He still has to have one more stem cell transplant because it is proven that two transplants have the cancer stay in remission longer. Scott talked to a man the other day that has been in remission from this cancer for 21 years. He is also going to try going without dialysis 3 times to see if his kidneys will function. I know he is not out of the woods yet but it looks to me like a miracle. It has been a very tough year for them. Thank you everyone for support and prayers!

The Astronomy club of Ogden was camping on Monte the same night we were there. They had over 50 telescopes. We got to look through them and were taught about different stars..It was amazing. This man made this telescope, it was so large we had to climb a ladder to see through it.

We had a very packed fun filled Labor Day Weekend, starting with my sister-in-laws shower. Brynn was very patient with all the kids who wanted to open her presents, there were a lot of people, a lot of food, and good times for all. Phil and Lola had the motor home parked on top of Monte Cristo so Saturday night we all headed up to cook out and visit with Scott and his family, Chad and Brynn, and Richard and Jan and girls. We had a wonderful time.

Kennedy's first day of School

Kennedy started Kindergarten yesterday, she has been counting down the days (I have not been quite as exited). She wanted to ride the bus to school on her first day and I thought o.k. that's fine but we won't tell

her we are going to beat the bus there and take pictures of her walking into the school, getting in her locker, signing her name-mostly embarrassing stuff that Darren and I weren't about to miss. Darren and I were waiting at the school with the video camera and camera in hand waiting for out little girl to get off the bus and chased her into the school to get every shot we could. I have to say it was fun to see her so exited. I held up pretty well (the days before leading up to, not so well) anyway on the ride home Darren had his sunglasses on and I looked over and there were a few tears streaming down his face. There is a song that I don't know the exact words to but something like this...when tough little boys grow up to be dad they turn into big babies again. I was very moved by his emotion. I am very lucky to be married to someone who loves his family. Enough mushy stuff. The first day went great, except that Kennedy forgot to get off the bus. I couldn't find her. The bus driver pulled up to her house and Kennedy asked her what all the buses were for, she said what are you still doing on here? Randy (bus driver) brought Kennedy back to my house and dropped her off right at the front door because Kennedy told her I wouldn't let her walk from the road! Kennedy got to open the doors on the bus and had a jolly old time, telling Randy that "my mom is going to be freaking out," freaking out I was. I lost my daughter the very first day of school. What a day!

It may seem very hard to believe...but yesterday I may have lost my temper over something very small and may have overreacted a bit. Kennedy got the brunt end of it and was grounded for the day, no friends, no TV, no music no nothing except talking and being with me all day. After I grounded her I wanted so bad to take it back but I knew I had to stick to my guns, once I said it had to be followed through. We had a great day together for a while, read, colored, played and then I wanted to be done with the grounding and it was only noon...I wanted to somewhat redeem myself today (since yesterday was not really all her fault, wrong place wrong time) so I took her and Hayden to the new playground in Randolph, bought them lunch and ice cream at Gators, babysay 3 dolls and a stuffed dog and let them play for 3 hours. The simple things brought such laughter and fun. I am so glad today was great and yesterday was over.

This weekend was the Eastman family reunion up the crick at Arlo and Toot's! We had so much fun. The kids played games, went canoeing on the fish pond, fished in the fish pond, ate, (and ate all day and night), had a surprise b-day party for Arlo, the annual auction and just visited and laughed all day. I married into to an amazing family and have so much fun. My husband had to work, but I am sure glad that Kennedy and I were able to go.

I know this is not as exiting for everyone else as me, but I LOVE the way Kennedy's room turned out. This saying is on the big wall above her bed and stretches across her room. It says "With a butterfly kiss and a ladybug hug, sleep tight Kennedy like a bug in a rug." Love it, hope you can see it. Kennedy decided she wanted her room painted again and wanted it "a little more grown up," her color choices were bright green and pink. My friend, Jackie Schulthess, does vinyl work so we are accenting with vinyl all over, here is a picture of the finished dresser. I love it and think it turned out so cute and fun. Once we get it all finished I'll put the rest of the pictures on here.

Spring is my very favorite time of year (except for the mud), I love all the baby animals and the greenness everywhere...I also love the water on the ranch. These are some pictures I took the other night at sunset. It's like a personal little paradise.

Isn't this the cutest picture ever? Breeze had her little colt about 2 weeks ago and my dad named her Twister. I love baby colts and I happen to think this one is the cutest one yet.

This is my awesome, incredibly talented cousin Andy...He is a true craftsman and can build anything. We were at his house this week in Rigby, Idaho and this is him in his wood shop. Andy is a Mountain Dew lover and has a really neat classic pop machine in his shop, so neat.

We have been staying with my nephew and nieces this week in Kaysville. The weather has been so nice, just perfect. We have been outside and going to parks. It is fun playing with cousins.

New Teeth

Kennedy lost her first tooth 2 weeks ago and every day we check to see how big the new tooth is getting. I looked today and there was another tooth coming in behind her baby tooth. I called the dentist and we went for a little visit, and came out with 3 teeth pulled. Kennedy was so brave, she didn't even cry (that is until we got home). She is growing up!
